There is almost no medical care in remote areas of the Tibetan High Plateau. There are a few Government clinics but as the average annual income in a good year is $20, the people cannot afford to pay for the medicine. To try to meet some of the needs, Jinpa has opened a clinic at the crossroads of three counties on the high plateau. Two monk/doctors man the clinic using Tibetan Traditional Herbal Medicine. Free medicine is given to the poorest families of which there are 247 in the immediate area. Sadly, there is no Tibetan medicine to treat TB which is rampant in the area nor is there treatment of anything requiring surgery as simple as appendicitis or severe as cancer. |
